So what’s your name?
Sonal Kwatra Paladini

What is the name of your blog?
Drifter Planet

What are the main themes that you discuss and why should we check your site out?
Drifter Planet is one of the very few travel blogs on the internet which focuses on music festivals as well. It is our journey as we hop from one music festival to another while exploring new destinations.

By “our” I mean Sandro (my husband) and Sonal (me). We met at a music festival in Thailand and eventually got married and started our blog.

Where has the best food?
If you ask me, I’d say India and if you ask Sandro, he will say Germany.

What’s been your best travel experience?
My best travel experience was in the Summer of 2016 where we visited many countries in Europe and attended 5 music festivals in different countries. I started my journey from the Himalayas where I hiked for 5 days to see one of the most beautiful lakes that I have seen -Chandrataal. After this, I went to Turkey and fell in love with that country. After Turkey, I joined my husband in Germany and we traveled to Hungary, Croatia, Portugal and Spain. We attended 5 music festivals and even volunteered in one of them.

What has been your WORST travel experience and why?
I absolutely love Turkey but my worst travel experience was when I was stranded in Istanbul during the attempted millitary coup during my solo trip. It was very scary because we could hear the gun shots and bombs at night. The roads were fully blocked and it was unsafe to step outside because of the violence on the road. I couldn’t make it to the airport for my flight but luckily I managed to get on a flight next day.

Where have you gone this year? What has been your favorite?
This year I visited 10 countries – some of them for the second time. I visited Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Turkey, Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Portugal, Spain and Indonesia. My favourite so far was Indonesia because it is very diverse. Although Bali is the most famous destination in Indonesia, my favourite one was Raja Ampat because I have never seen so much natural beauty anywhere else.

Where are you most looking forward to going soon?
I want to visit Sri Lanka in January and I’m looking forward to it.

What are your aspirations for travel? Where do you see this taking you?
We want to travel for the rest of our lives. We are now doing slow travel where we live in a new place for a few months and volunteer. We don’t make a lot of money but this lifestyle brings us a lot of happiness.

What has been the most challenging aspect of your journey, either as a blogger or a traveler?
The most challenging aspect of my journey is meeting my deadlines as I travel, managing my website’s technical aspect and managing Drifter Planet’s social media. At times I feel like I’m losing my mind!

What is one thing you cannot live without while travelling?
Wet wipes
